Chris' grandfather Thomas Wallis  started the practice Wallis, Gilbert and Partners in 1917, becoming a leading firm in Art Deco design and industrial architecture. He was joined by his son Douglas who eventually was joined by Chris. The practice contributed to some much celebrated landmarks, particularly along the Great West Road (the Golden Mile) in Brentford, West London.
